Why are we wasting our money on Roads?

I walk to the gas station to buy gas and I gotta pay road and highway taxes. In my city bill i have taxes for roads. Why? Why am i forced to participate in commerce when I walk everywhere. Isn't it illegal to force me to participate in paying a tax on something I don't use. This is America and free market should dictate how many roads we have not the govt, not big govt. And if we allow all americans to us these so called roads they will be overcrowded and fail like they do in most major cities; and this proves the highways system is a failure, all roads should be turned back over to lots, and we should let capitalism flow. Who agrees wih me?
